(Goal: keep morning-happy Max out of the apartment until everyone wakes up)

Roberto Cavalli’s Boat
Observation: Luxury yachts lined up along the harbor, some with parties that started the night before still in full swing.

Most boats had movie posters on them. Romain told me that the movie companies rent boats and use them as offices, meeting rooms and party places during the festival.
Observation: Someone who looks suspiciously like Naomi Campbell partying on the deck of the Fashion TV boat, looking extremely lively for the early hour.

Max in Front of the Party Boats
Observation: A man with longish hair and a California accent, wearing an Armani suit and a festival badge, walking along the Croisette (boardwalk) with a pretty foreign girl. He is trying painfully hard to appear cool and well-traveled to her, walking with his hands in his pockets and talking about a beach resort in Italy, but looking too stiff and unpracticed to pull it off. Luckily for him, his efforts are unnecessary since she is obviously too drunk to notice.

Red Carpet at 6:30 a.m.
Observation: Women with disheveled hair in beautiful dresses, carrying their shoes and squinting in the morning light. They walk gingerly on bare feet that have been ravaged by hours of high-heel partying.

Movie-Themed Beach Sculpture (sleeping person hidden under pier next to it makes sure no one kicks it over during the night)
Observation: A handsome man in an expensive suit crouching behind a bush and weeping.

A Cannes Native Dressed for the Festival. Or Maybe She Always Dresses Like That.
Observation: A woman in a black bikini, black pantyhose, high heel shoes and a black helmet riding a motorcycle past a gang of hooting and whistling men. She raises a carefully manicured hand and flips them the bird as she speeds away.

Early Morning View of Cannes - the Old Section
Observation: Random people hanging out in gorgeous clothes, acting like they’re someone important. Since they are hanging out in gorgeous clothes for no particular reason at 6:30 in the morning, one would suspect that they are not, in fact, someone important.

Festival Limos Polished and Gleaming in the Early Morning Sun
Observation: Security guards and boat crewmembers standing guard outside all of the yachts and tents. They squeeze Max’s cheek and saying how “mimi” (cute) he is as we walk by.

Early Morning View of Cannes
Observation: A street person lying wrapped in a blanket on the beach with a luxury ship in the harbor behind him. A photographer with multiple industrial-size cameras around his neck gets down on one knee to take a photo of the dichotomy. I get my camera out to take a photo of him, but Max starts whining and it’s time to go home.

I am soooo jealous!
I love your observations and photos.

Hi!...came back by on my lunch break to see if there were anymore “super star Laurent” sightings…grin. I told my husband that story and he laughed. We get a lot of super star sightings out here in LA. Of course there is a psychology that says if you acknowledge you’ve seen a star – then you aren’t one! As a result, LA natives don’t like to acknowledge celebrities-It is all pretty silly…everyone trying to be someone. Your comments today reminded me of that. I guess no surprise since the LA culture is imported to Cannes during the festival. Have a lovely day!
I'm loving your observations and photos, too!
Glad you guys liked it - wish you could have been there as well. I could have used some fellow gossip-queens.
